Birding in Vietnam
Anybody with a reasonable level of fitness can enjoy birding in Vietnam but to get the most out your Vietnam Birding tour requires a modest amount of physical activity. There may be walks of up to 10 kilometres/6 miles on some days and temperatures will often climb to over 30° Celsius/90° Fahrenheit by the late morning. Birds in tropical climates are most active in the cooler periods of the day from dawn to mid-morning and from late afternoon to dusk so early starts are required to maximize our chances of finding our target birds.
Accommodation
Accommodation in Vietnam’s national parks is simple but all the rooms we use have private bathroom facilities and either a fan or air-conditioning. At some national parks electricity is provided by a generator during the evening. Birding sites away from the national parks, such as Dalat and Sapa, have a wide range of accommodation options from basic mini-hotels to deluxe 5-star hotels and resorts.
Meals
Meals other than breakfasts are not usually included in the tour price of our custom tours (unless specifically mentioned in your itinerary) giving you the option to choose where and what you eat. To simplify the payment of meals and drinks during the tour, your Vietnam Birding tour leader can collect a kitty contribution from each tour member at the start of the tour to be topped-up along the way when necessary. If you prefer however you can opt for a tour that is fully-inclusive of all meals.
Transportation
Land transportation is by modern air-conditioned car or minibus. At some sites there are options for visiting birding areas by jeep, boat or bicycle. Sapa is best reached by air-conditioned overnight train from Hanoi. Flights within Vietnam are operated by the national carrier, Vietnam Airlines, on its fleet of modern Boeing, Airbus, ATR and Fokker aircraft.
